Floodwaters Receding in Independence

Independence is taking their turn recovering from major flooding.

The Wapsi River crested at 19.36 feet Sunday afternoon – that’s three feet below the record and the fourth highest flood in the town’s history.

That’s National Weather Service meteorologist Kevin Skow. The Highway 150 South Bridge reopened Monday after it was covered with floodwaters over the weekend. City officials say clean-up kits and bottled water are available at the Independence Fire Station. And sandbags can be returned to the Rivers Edge parking lot or the City Shop.
