HS Volleyball: WD Hawks Keep WaMaC Conference East Division Crown

The Class 3A 2nd-ranked West Delaware Volleyball team locked up the 2016 WaMaC conference East division title with a 3-1 back and forth win over No. 11 Beckman inside Seedorff Gymnasium last night. The Hawks claimed sets one, three and four; 25-23, 25-22 and 25-20. The Blazers took the second game 25-23. It was the fourth straight East side championship for the program who hasn’t lost a regular season conference match since October 4th of 2012. Hawks head coach Brett Mather says he is very proud of this group’s accomplishment:


It was a postseason type atmosphere, on the final night of the regular season, which Coach Mather welcomed:

It was also senior night for WD as the program honored the 8 seniors on the varsity roster; Jade Putz, Anna Thole, Katelyn Mangold, Liz Koloc, Lea Boies, Sarah Morkel, Ashley Goebel and Haley Lyness. Coach Mather credits the leadership of the seniors for bringing this team along and being able to achieve the success they have:


The Hawks improved to 31-2 after winning their 28th regular season conference match in a row and will now prepare for their final weekend tournament of the season at the annual Westside Invitational hosted by Cedar Rapids Jefferson on Saturday. The Blazers fell to 22-7 and 4-3 in the division, good for fourth place.
