There’s a new hangout in Petersburg.
The Big House opened this summer in the former Detour building. The Detour was a popular family-friendly restaurant and bar where the Petersburg community gathered for decades. But when it changed owners several years ago, it lost that family-friendly feel – and it eventually closed, sitting vacant for the past two years.
Longtime resident Rick Bruggeman, known around the area as “Green”, wanted to bring back the days of the “old” Detour that everyone loved. He bought the building earlier this year and it’s now known as The Big House.
That’s Angie McDermott, who is the manager of The Big House. She says it looks and feels like an entirely new place – all thanks to a major renovation.
The Big House opens at 11 am each day and McDermott says they hope to start serving Sunday morning breakfast soon. She says they opened with a basic menu, but they plan to expand it based on the community’s feedback.
The community’s response to having a restaurant and bar in Petersburg again was bigger than McDermott or anyone expected. The Big House opened its doors in July and was greeted with open arms.
The Big House has a couple big events coming up. They’ll be hosting a Tailgate Party this Saturday starting at 9 am, with wings, brats and t-shirt giveaways. And on October 29th, they’ll have a Halloween party with a Halloween-themed food, a costume contest and giveaways.
