ANAMOSA, Iowa (AP) – An inmate who escaped from a maximum security prison is now in trouble for a second time at the Anamosa State Penitentiary.
The Iowa Department of Corrections says Justin Kestner used a “crude piece of metal” Wednesday to assault an officer at the Anamosa prison.
The department says the assault came after Kestner was able to remove himself from a health services room. The officer suffered several facial contusions and was treated at a hospital.
Last year, Kestner managed to slither out of one of the state’s most highly-secure cells at the Fort Madison prison. Kestner climbed through piping and a vent to reach the roof, then descended down the downspout. He stole a car but was captured within hours.
The department said the assault will be referred for prosecution.
