Gerald Vincent ”Gerry” Kelchen, 78, of Manchester, Iowa, died on Thursday, October 27, 2016, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. He was born on February 5, 1938, at Worthington, the son of Peter and Florence (Leigh) Kelchen. Gerald was raised and educated in the Cascade/Sand Springs area, where he attended rural school.
On January 23, 1960, Gerald was united in marriage to Norma Helle at the St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville. Together they farmed in Delaware County until they moved to Manchester in 1974. Gerald sold Moormans Feed for 15 years.
Gerald was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He enjoyed time spent with grandchildren, woodworking, tilling gardens, dancing, going for coffee at Hardees, doing book puzzles, and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Kelchen of Manchester; six children, Dan (Patti) Kelchen of Manchester, David (Chris) Kelchen of Vinton, Lori (Tom) Bunting of Edgewood, John (Cindy Weber) of Manchester, Terry (Christine) Kelchen of Dyersville, and Sara (Joe) Richter of Earlville; 15 grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; four siblings, Elsie (Emil) Althoff of Earlville, Harold (Pearl) Kelchen of Ryan, LeRoy (Roselyn) Kelchen of Dyersville, and Leon (Dixie) Kelchen of Strawberry Point; two sisters-in-law, Roseanne Kelchen and Mary Kelchen both of Edgewood; and many nieces and nephews.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Verna Kelchen and
Grace Burkle; three brothers, Ernest, Lloyd, and Eugene Kelchen; a brother-in-law, Cletus Burkle, and two sisters-in-law, Marianna Kelchen and Irma Kelchen.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 31, 2016, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester, Iowa. Officiating: Rev. Joseph Schneider
Visitation: 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, 2016, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester. Friends may also call an hour prior to Mass at the church on Monday.
