HS Football: West Delaware Looks To Continue Home Winning Streak

The 8th ranked West Delaware football team will look to run its home winning streak to 24 tonight as they host Waverly-Shell Rock in the opening round of the 2016 Iowa high school playoffs. The class 3A district 4 champion Hawks enter with an 8-1 record while the Go-Hawks come in as one of the wild card teams as they finished at 6-3 and third place in district 3 behind Cedar Rapids Xavier and Benton Community. West Delaware head coach Doug Winkowitsch says Waverly-Shell Rock is a great team and his squad will have to play well in order to move on to the next round:

West Delaware is making their ninth straight playoff appearance which is the sixth longest playoff streak in class 3A and Winkowitsch is proud of the way that this year’s group has worked to achieve the goals they set early on in the season:

The Hawks have won the last four meetings against Waverly-Shell Rock including a 47-25 victory in Manchester in week three last season. The Go-Hawks have a lot of tradition of their own as they are making their seventh straight playoff appearance and Winkowitsch is happy to play this game at home on Brown Field:

Kickoff for tonight’s game is scheduled for 7:00 and can be heard on Mix 94.7 KMCH with Jamie Vaske, Aaron Plein, and Bill Logan as sports director Jon Swisher starts the night with the football Friday night pregame show starting at 6:30.

The 7-2 Western Dubuque football team is making their first trip to the playoffs in class 4A and 13th in school history tonight as they travel to Kingston Stadium in Cedar Rapids and will take on 4th ranked Cedar Rapids Washington starting at 7:00 in a game that will be played back on Mix 94.7 KMCH with Trevor Hunt and Dan McClean following the West Delaware vs Waverly-Shell Rock game.
