The Class 1A 15th-ranked Starmont Stars Volleyball team made program history last night with their 31st victory surpassing last seasons 30-win total. The Stars defeated 14th-rated Ed-Co 3-0 in Edgewood winning 25-22, 25-22 and 25-20. Tenth-year head coach Robert Goedken says 31 wins is terrific but this group isn’t settling for just this:
Sophomore Regan Janssen described the positive mindset her team had coming into the match against the Vikings who they had lost to twice this season:
Hayley Goedken is another sophomore and is the leading scorer on the squad. She has a unique perspective as being the player around the program the longest because of her parents Robert and Lois:
Senior Kerrington Snavely comments that it was a great experience to be a part of the record breaking victory but plenty of work is left to do to reach their ultimate goal of the first state tournament appearance in program history:
For the Stars it will be only the 2nd regional final ever, first since 2008 when they lost to Aplington-Parkersburg. The opponent will be 6th-ranked Tripoli who shutout Dunkerton 3-0. The match to go to state will be in Dunkerton Tuesday night at 7pm.
