The Delaware County Freedom Rock was set in its official spot in Dundee over the weekend.
Volunteers dug the hole for the rock in the Dundee City Park last week and it was set in the hole on Saturday. The City of Dundee donated services, along with several local businesses.
The rock is now ready to be painted. Iowa artist Ray Sorenson will paint the rock to honor all Delaware County veterans and local heroes. He is traveling around Iowa, painting a rock in each county – and Delaware County is towards the end of his tour. The original plan called for the Delaware County Freedom Rock to be painted in 2020. Maria Sorenson says Ray is running right on schedule – even a bit ahead.
After the rock is painted, they’ll finish up the project with landscaping, sidewalks and a parking lot.
