HS Girls Basketball: WD Hawks Open Season With Loss

The West Delaware Hawks Girls varsity basketball team started off their new campaign with a trip to Waverly last night and suffered a 60-34 loss to the Class 4A 3rd-ranked Go-Hawks of Waverly-Shell Rock. The Hawks fell behind early 17-4 and never recovered from the Go-Hawks stifling defense, trailing 33-15 at halftime and 52-22 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Senior Annie Cassutt led the way offensively with 12 points, Senior Haley Lyness and Freshman Macey Kleitsch had 6, Lauren Collier and Madalyn Burke had 3 and Brooke O’Connell 2. The Freshmen Hawks lost 48-16 and the JV squad fell 41-21.

The Hawks return to play tonight as they host Class 3A 5th-rated Center Point-Urbana with their home opener inside Seedorff Gymnasium. All the coverage can be heard live from KMCH Sports on KMCH and KMCH.com starting around 7:30pm with Sports Director Jon Swisher and Bill Logan.
