HS Wrestling: WD Ready To Begin New Season

By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:

The first night of the new month brings a new wrestling season for a majority of our area coverage schools as they’ll open up with non-conference meets Thursday night. The West Delaware Hawks will be at home hosting Waverly-Shell Rock. The Hawks are coming off a rebuilding year that displayed a 6-18 dual meet record a season ago. Mitch Mangold is one of 6 returning starters on a team who will still be young grade wise. Mangold is the leading returner as he posted a record of 33-15. It’s new territory for veteran head coach Jeff Voss and company as it’s the first time for the program to begin a season without a state qualifier since 1993. The JV match will begin at 6pm inside Seedorff Gymnasium with Parents Night introductions before the varsity match starts around 7:30pm. All the coverage live on KMCH and KMCH.com with Jamie Vaske and Roger Reed.

Elsewhere with all 6pm starts:

Western Dubuque is at South Tama with Benton Community.

Cascade and Camanche are in Bellevue.

Monticello entertains North Cedar.

East Buchanan, Maquoketa Valley and Midland visit Central City.

North Linn and Alburnett are in Lisbon.

Ed-Co travels to Oelwein.

Starmont will be on the road out of the state as they’ll head to Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin to take on North Crawford.
