East Buchanan Asking Voters to Approve $6.5 Million Bond Referendum

The East Buchanan School District is asking voters to approve a six-point-five million dollar bond referendum on Tuesday.

The bond would be used to improve facilities, including…

-Creating a new up to code, Industrial Technology building with an enclosed hallway connecting to campus for improved security

-A safe room/multipurpose room that would be added to the back of the school’s current multipurpose room

-And a fine arts and athletic addition with additional locker rooms and main entrance lobby, which would be added to the north side of the current high school.

The plan is to ask for a property tax increase equivalent to 50% of the estimated annual payment for the project. The District will then use a combination of revenues received from the Statewide Sales Tax and a change in the District’s income surtax rate in order to make up for the remainder of the annual payment.

Everyone living in the East Buchanan School District is eligible to vote. Polling hours are from noon to 8 pm Tuesday, with precincts in Aurora, Winthrop and Quasqueton.
