UNI Ends Losing Streak; CyHawk Series Continues

UNI ended its four-game losing streak with a record-setting shooting performance, as the Panthers beat South Dakota State, 86-58, at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls Wednesday night.   Junior Hunter Rhodes came off the bench to score a career-high 20 points, including six three pointers. In fact, UNI tied a school and Missouri Valley record by making 20 three pointers.  The Panthers are 4-4.

Tania Davis made her first five 3-point attempts — Iowa made 13 as a team — and the Hawkeyes defeated Iowa State, 88-76, in the women’s basketball edition of the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series. The home team has won the last 10 in the rivalry.  Iowa is 7-3, Iowa State falls to 6-2.

On the men’s side, Iowa still has a commanding lead in the series but Iowa State has dominated recent history and the 25th ranked Cyclones are heavily favored to make it seven of eight when the teams collide in Iowa City tonight. The Hawkeyes are 5-5 and in their five losses gave up an average of 91 points.   The Cyclones are 6-2. The Hawkeyes lead the all-time series 43-26.
