The Western Dubuque wrestling team stayed perfect in WaMaC dual action last night as they defeated Maquoketa and West Delaware in Epworth. The Bobcats opened their night against Maquoketa in a dual that saw them win 13 out of the 14 matches with eight falls and held the Cardinals to zero takedowns in the dual as they went on to win 75-3. Western Dubuque head coach Paul Cleary was very pleased with the effort by not only his varsity in the first dual but his JV squad as well:
In their final dual of the night the Bobcats took down one of their rivals in West Delaware as they picked up seven more pins and won 11 matches on their way 58-9 victory as they move to 4-0 in the WaMaC. Although the Bobcats won the dual against West Delaware, Cleary says they have learned a lot from wrestling the Hawks for the past several years that has helped them to get where they are now:
Western Dubuque will host seven schools tomorrow at their own Bobcat duals which gets underway at 10:00.
West Delaware started their night against Maquoketa and got their first WaMaC dual win of the season as they pinned the Cardinals six times on their way to a 60-12 win, and head coach Jeff Voss says he continues to see improvement from his team every day in practice and it’s starting to show during competition:
The Hawks will take part in a new tournament tomorrow as they will travel to Calmar for the South Winneshiek Invitational which will feature some of the best 2A schools in the state and Voss is excited to see some new competition at the new tournament:
KMCH will have live updates of the first two rounds of the tournament and will have the semifinal and final rounds live with Roger Reed and former West Delaware wrestler Sam Phillips.
