Daniel Dallas DeLong, 75, of Arlington, Iowa, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2016, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood, Iowa. He was born on June 2, 1941, in Quasqueton, the son of DuWayne and Aileen (Smock) DeLong. He was raised and educated in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School in 1959. After school, Dan worked at Wilson’s in Cedar Rapids and then at Lau and Eshman Construction in Marion. He served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he came home and started his custom dozing business and later farmed.
On October 21, 1972, Dan was united in marriage to Pat Slater at St. Mary Catholic Church in Lamont. Three children were born to this union. The family lived on their farm at Maryville Corner near Arlington. Dan farmed and did custom dozing for over 50 years. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Pat DeLong of Arlington; his three children, Bart (Jill Baker) DeLong of Arlington, Amy DeLong of Ames, Iowa, and Beau DeLong of Arlington; sister-and brothers-in-law, Joann DeLong of Avondale, Arizona, Burdell (Kathy) Martin of Boone, and Gary (Shirley) Heiserman of Lisbon, Iowa; nephews and nieces, David, Dennis, and Douglas DeLong, Michelle Shelly, Sandy Mayhew, Blaine Martin, Cary Heiserman and Sara Heiserman; and several great-nephews and nieces.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Donald DeLong; and his sisters, Mary Martin and Marjory Heiserman.

Visitation: 3:00 – 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Strawberry Point, Iowa. Time of Remembrance: 7:00 p.m., followed by Military Rites.
