In Calmar- The Delaware wrestling team finished in third place at the South Winneshiek Invitational on Saturday as they were seven and one half points better than fourth place Decorah who won the Hawk’s Bob Murphy Invitational last week. Nine Hawks placed in the top five as they were led by junior Harrison Goebel who won the 182 pound title by pinning his way through the tournament including a 4:35 fall over Max Schwickerath of New Hampton in the championship match. Sophomore Mitchel Mangold picked up two falls on his way to the finals before falling to seventh ranked Keegan Tenge of New Hampton in the finals in a 12-3 major decision. In Parkersburg- Maquoketa Valley finished in eighth place the Aplington Parkerburg’s Keith Vry Invitational as seven of their eight wrestlers placed in the tournament. Alec McDowell was the lone champ for the Wildcats as he recorded a major decision and a fall on his way to the 182 pound title. For complete results click HERE.
In Oewein- The Stamont and Ed-Co wrestling teams competed in the Oelwein Invitational on Saturday and it was the Stars who were seven and one half points better than the Vikings for sixth place in the tournament. All six Starmont who wrestled place in the tournament as Mitchell Hayes, Tyler Lynde, and Chase Peterman all finished in third place to lead the Stars on the day. 113 pound freshman Alex Jones led the way for Ed-Co as he finished in second place behind fourth ranked Kaden Anderlick from Crestwood. In Mount Vernon- Beckman junior Luke Hageman led the Blazers to a sixth place finish as he was the 160 pound champion on Saturday at the Mount Vernon Invitational. East Buchanan finished in eighth place as they had two champions in senior 120 pounder Gannon Cook and 138 pound senior Kyle Decker who knocked off top ranked Chase McLaughlin of Lisbon in the finals. In Clarence- North Linn had three champions on Saturday at the North Cedar Invitational on their way to a third place finish. Senior Brock Henderson won the 120 title while sophomore brother Brady Henderson won the 126 pound championship, and senior heavyweight Kyler Schott had two falls on his way to the title. In Maquoketa- Monticello sophomore Chase Luensman had two falls as he won the 120 pound title and led the Panthers Saturday at the Zimmerman Invitational in Maquoketa. Alaina Sunlin at 106 pounds, Keegan Achenbach at 195 pounds, and Wade Picray at 220 pounds all had runner-up finishes as Monticello finished the tournament in fifth place. In Epworth- Western Dubuque finished second in the Bobcat Duals on Saturday as they went 4-1 on the day with their lone loss coming to North Scott. The Bobcats won all three of their duals in pool action defeating Williamsburg, Cedar Falls, and Davenport West to win the red pool. In the championship they defeated Dakota (ILL) 61-9 before dropping a close dual to North Scott 33-32. For complete results click HERE.
In Tama- Independence went 2-2 in the South Tama Duals as they defeated Vinton-Shellsburg 53-25 and Dubuque Wahlert 35-33, and fell to Solon 49-28 and Omaha Burke (NE) 43-25.
The pairings for the 2016 Battle of Waterloo wrestling tournament were released yesterday and West Delaware, Western Dubuque, and Independence will all take part in the two day 32 team dual tournament, and all three will wrestle in the morning session on Friday. West Delaware is the number four seed in pool b as they open with fifth seeded Iowa City West, while Independence is the number seven seed in pool b and will wrestle second seeded Waverly-Shell Rock in the opening round. Western Dubuque is the number two seed in pool a as they will take on Union in the first round starting at 9:00 am Friday.
