Winthrop Teen Wrapping Up Reign as Iowa Pork Queen

For the past year, a Buchanan County teen has been serving the state as the Iowa Pork Queen and her reign will come to an end tonight.

Holly Cook grew up on a farm near Winthrop. Her parents, Aaron and Trish, have a 1,200 sow operation. And being involved in the pork industry is something Holly has loved since she was a little girl.

Cook was crowned the Iowa Pork Queen at the Iowa Pork Congress last January.

While juggling her Iowa Pork Queen duties, she graduated from East Buchanan High School and began her studies at Iowa State. This week, she’s back at the Iowa Pork Congress in Des Moines and preparing to crown new royalty tonight.

Thirteen contestants are vying for the chance to serve on the Iowa Pork Youth Leadership Team. One queen and two ambassadors will be named tonight, with local contestants including Alex Bishop of Manchester and Evan Gibbs of Cascade.

Here are a few photos of Cook’s year as Iowa Pork Queen!
