The Independence wrestling team will start its postseason run Saturday as they will wrestle at the sectional tournament at Union LaPorte City. Besides the Mustangs, Union will also host Center Point-Urbana, Denver-Tripoli, GRNT and Vinton-Shellsburg and the tournament features 11 ranked wrestlers and six returning state qualifiers. With all of last years state qualifiers graduating the Mustangs are relying on their youth to lead the team down the stretch and head coach Michael Doyle says they have done a great job:
Three of the teams at sectionals are teams that the Mustangs are familiar with and they have wrestled throughout the year so Doyle says they have a pretty good idea of what they will see on Saturday:
With the tough competition that they will face in the in the next couple of weeks Doyle has been telling his young team to focus on the things they can control and keep looking forward:
Wrestling starts at noon on Saturday and the top two wrestlers from each weight class will advance to the district tournament while the top two teams from the sectional will advance to the regional duals that will be held next Tuesday night. The qualifiers from Union will match up with the two qualifiers from the New Hampton sectional and the district meet will be held next Saturday in Decorah.
