HS Basketball: WD Hawk Boys Win WaMaC East Title

By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:

The Class 3A top-ranked West Delaware Hawks Boys Basketball team clinched the outright WaMaC East division title last night at home with a 64-32 win over Anamosa. Seven players scored with three tallying double figures. Derek Krogmann led the way with 20, Kyle Wright had 14 and Tyler Kelley 13. As a team, WD connected on nine 3-pointers. The Hawks became just the 10th team in program history to win a WaMaC championship dating back to the beginning of the conference in 1943. Fourth year head coach and 2000 WD grad Matt Uthoff talked about how important the feat was:

The Hawks improved to 18-0, 15-0 overall in the WaMaC and 13-0 in the East with 3 games remaining and are now tied for fourth most wins in program history with the 07-08 squad who was the last team to win a conference crown. Coach Uthoff told his players not to ever take this experience for granted:
