Two Area Teams Close Their Season in State Consolation Games

By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:

The High School Boys Basketball season wrapped up last Saturday night in Des Moines. On Friday morning and Saturday afternoon it closed out for our two remaining area coverage teams. On Friday morning, the North Linn Lynx finished their terrific season in the 1A consolation final beating Remsen, St. Mary’s 76-66. North Linn’s third place finish ties the 1977 team, the last to make a state trip, who placed third while going 24-1. This years squad was 27-1 good for most wins in school program history. The third trip to the state tournament since saw the Lynx improve their mark all-time in state games to 4-3. Co-head coach Mike Hilmer says the young group of Lynx with no seniors on the team exceeded expectations by overcoming their youth and were able to achieve quite a lot:

The semifinal loss to Gladbrook-Reinbeck will be a motivating factor for Hilmer and company:

Coach Hilmer says he is fortunate to be where he is because of the quality kids that make them good people on and off the floor:

The Lynx players were reminded often this season not to take their fan support for granted:

The West Delaware Hawks fell to Waverly-Shell Rock 48-44 in their 3A consolation contest. The Hawks finished at 25-2, having the most wins in school program history since the 1999-2000 team who was 24-1 and a 3A runner-up. We’ll have more from coach Matt Uthoff on the Hawks next week
