The West Delaware boys golf team is coming off of a season which saw them crown an individual state champion along with bringing home the class 3A state runner-up trophy, and tomorrow afternoon they look to build on that success as they begin their season at Solon. The Hawks will begin this season under new direction as long time head coach Tom Fetter retired after 26 years making way for new head coach Christi Imsland who played college golf at Iowa State before becoming an assistant coach at UNI. Imsland says she has some big shoes to fill, but looks to carry on the tradition that has been established at West Delaware:
There have been a few changes to the practice format early on but Imsland says it has been a smooth transition for both her and the golfers:
The Hawks have a lot of experience back from the state runner-up team as senior Trent Shaw finished 10th at the state meet, sophomore Gavin Soppe was 33rd, senior Derik Foster was 40th, and junior Adam Kelchen finished 48th. Imsland will rely on those guys for leadership, but says there are plenty of other players that will be pushing them for spots on the varsity team:
Imsland is excited for the season to start and looks forward to seeing everything the kids have been working on in practice to transfer to the competition:
The Hawks and Spartans will tee off at 4:00 tomorrow afternoon at the Lake MacBride Golf Course in Solon.
