Earlville Woman Takes Top Honors in Pork Board’s Pie Contest

Doris McAllister won first place in the Delaware County Pork Producers and Porkettes Association’s Annual “Bake It With Lard” Pie Contest Tuesday night.

And that’s not all – she won second and third place, too. Her caramel apple, caramel pecan and pecan pies won the judges’ hearts. McAllister, who was shocked with her first, second and third place sweep, says she learned to bake from a very special lady.

Over forty pies were entered in this year’s contest, with most of the proceeds going to the Delaware County Pork Producers and Porkettes Association. And as a pork producer herself, McAllister says supporting the pork industry has always been important.

McAllister’s three pies brought in a total of $1,000 at the pie auction that followed the contest. Keuter Contracting was the top bidder for the first place pie, paying $450. American Trust & Savings Bank took the second place pie for $350 and Ken Ries paid $200 for the third place pie.

The other winners in the “Bake It With Lard” Pie Contest were Gladys Tinker in fourth place, Ruth Hargrafen in fifth and Nancy Appleton taking sixth.

The 2017 Little Sir Hamalot Wyatt Mullis, 2017 Little Miss Pigtails Josie Hillers and 2017 Alternate Little Miss Pigtails Vera Loecke were also crowned Tuesday night. We’ll hear from the new little royalty coming up in Thursday’s KMCH Local News.
