Saturday was a beautiful day for Manchester’s first-ever “Rhubarb on the River”.
The downtown event combined two of the town’s previous summer events – Rhubarb Fest and Riverfest – into one big event. With activities such as a morning run, street vendors and live music, it was great way for local residents and visitors to kick off summer.
Former eastern Iowa radio personality Von Ketelsen traveled from Carroll, Iowa for Saturday morning’s Rhubarb on the River bike ride.
Bob Baliston made the trip up from Toddville to have a little fun on Manchester’s Whitewater Park.
And the day was called “Rhubarb on the River” for a reason… with opportunities to try rhubarb pie, rhubarb shakes and rhubarb brats.
Manchester resident Dave Lawson was enjoying the afternoon downtown.
During the afternoon, many people set up their lawn chairs along South Franklin Street to watch nine local performers in the “Manchester’s Got Talent” talent show, with 17-year old Mariah Seeley taking home the top prize. And a couple of bands wrapped up the day with music too.
Chamber Director Jessica Pape says it was a great day and they’re planning to keep the two events combined again next year.
