The West Delaware Hawks season came to a close last night at Exide Field in Manchester after a 2-1 loss to Dubuque Wahlert.The Golden Eagles plated their first run in the bottom of the third on a solo home run by senior Austin Savary. The Hawks responded in the 4th on a lead-off single by Nick Casey and Kabryn Cook’s base hit to left scored courtesy runner Marshall McCarty. Wahlert scored their winning run in the bottom of the fifth on a double by Spencer Goerdt. It was the fourth time in the last nine seasons that Wahlert has ended the Hawks season and 3rd in a district final. The Golden Eagles advance to play Waverly-Shell Rock for the second straight year in a substate final Wednesday night.
The Hawks finish at 22-15 and say goodbye to 4 seniors, Kyle Wright, Nolan Lyness, Marshall McCarty and Kasey Wenger.
