A house in Brandon was destroyed by a fire over the weekend.
According to our coverage partner KCRG, the fire broke out at 802 South Street on Sunday, with crews working for hours to keep the flames from spreading.
The Brandon Fire Chief says the fire started because someone didn’t properly put out a cigarette.
The house is a total loss.
County records show the owner of the home is Howard Bentley. He is the father of Roger Bentley, who was found guilty of kidnapping and murdering 10-year old Jetseta Gage over a decade ago. Roger used to live at the home with his father.
KCRG says after Roger was convicted, the home was vacant for about a decade. The two renters currently living there had been in the home since this spring.
