Governor Kim Reynolds is requesting a presidential disaster declaration for Clayton, Fayette and Buchanan counties following last month’s severe storms and flooding.
She sent a letter to President Trump Thursday asking for the declaration.
A total of seven counties from northeast Iowa were in the request.
If the request is approved, the counties could use money from FEMA’s Public Assistance Program to rebuild damaged infrastructure such as roads, bridges, culverts and other public facilities. The potential funds could also be used to cover the cost of emergency work and debris removal.
