HS CROSS COUNTRY: West Delaware Ready For Season to Start

By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:

The West Delaware Hawks will begin the competition part of the 2017 Cross Country season Tuesday evening.

Numbers of runners out are pretty good for both programs, as the girls have just under 40 while the boys have 25.

Fifth-year boys head coach Dale Meyer says their off-season work ethic was one of the best he has seen:

Meyer mentioned his seniors and what the mindset of his squad should be:

Because school at West Delaware and a good majority of the schools around doesn’t start until Wednesday, coach Meyer talks about the different feel the opening meet will have before the kids are back at school:

Sixth-year girls head coach Ben Moser is back to lead the program. First year assistant coach Jason Guyer says only 3 girls are coming back with experience so competition for spots has been interesting in practice:

West Delaware will be one of 14 schools participating in the meet at Mount Vernon high school including the host team Mount Vernon-Lisbon. The night will begin at 5pm with the JV girls race followed by JV boys then varsity girls and boys.

Ed-Co will host their annual early season meet at the Woods Edge golf course beginning at 4:30pm this afternoon. Eleven other schools will partake including Beckman, Central Elkader and Starmont.
