The 2017 high school football season officially begins for a majority of the KMCH coverage area teams tonight, including the West Delaware Hawks at home on Brown Field hosting the 0-1 Independence Mustangs. Fourteenth-year Hawks head coach Doug Winkowitsch talks about where his team sits now entering their first contest, for some of them their first varsity action ever:
The Hawks won the match-up last season at Independence 48-0, Coach Wink believes it is an improved squad led by 3rd-year head coach Justin Putz:
The West Delaware Football pregame show begins around 6:45pm this evening with Jamie Vaske, Aaron Plein and Bill Logan. Sports Director Jon Swisher will be joined by Hawks head man Doug Winkowitsch. The entire interview can be heard here:

Our KMCH Sports Area Online and Playback game of the week will come from Monticello. The Panthers host their Jones County highway 151 rivals Anamosa in the 79th annual battle of the Cowbell. A game won by the Blue Raiders a season ago in Anmosa, 38-34. Sports Director Jon Swisher, Ryan Hauser and Kevin Barnes will have the call from Dean Nelson Field around 7:30pm live on KMCH.com and played back after the WD/Indee contest.
