Possibility for New Hotel in Manchester

Manchester could be home to a new hotel as early as next year.

The City, along with Delaware County Economic Development, is currently in discussions with the Iowa-based hotel company Boulders Inn & Suites.

The company recently built a hotel in Monticello and is currently constructing one in Oelwein.

They are considering an upper mid-scale 2-story 40-room hotel in the AJ Spiegel subdivision along the Highway 20/Highway 13 interchange on the west end of Manchester.

Most residents and visitors agree Manchester needs more hotel options. Last year, the City of Manchester completed a hotel feasibility study, which showed the town could support a hotel of that size and quality. Currently, Manchester has two hotels, but some visitors opt to travel to Dyersville and Independence for lodging.

Manchester City Manager Tim Vick say if plans come together yet this fall, construction could start in the spring.

The City and DCED are also working right now with a couple other companies who are interested in building in the Spiegel subdivision, so officials are hoping to see development in that area start to take off next year.
