President Donald Trump has declared several counties in northeast Iowa disaster areas following severe storms and flooding July 19th through the 23rd.
The proclamation means federal disaster assistance will be made available to Allamakee, Bremer, Buchanan, Chickasaw, Clayton, Fayette, and Mitchell counties.
Federal funding is available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds, and flooding. Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.
More than 10 inches of rain fell in parts of northeast Iowa on July 21st and 22nd, just two days after a tornado ripped through McGregor on July 19th.
