West Delaware School Board Candidate: Ed Poynor

School board elections are tomorrow, so let’s learn more about the third and final candidate in this year’s West Delaware School Board elections.

Ed Poynor is running against Ryan Peyton for the four-year term in the South District, currently held by Dr. John Tyrrell.

Poynor grew up in New Jersey and moved to Iowa during his college years. He became a band teacher, teaching at Dubuque Wahlert and Western Dubuque before getting a job at Maquoketa Valley, which is where he met his wife, Mary Ann, who was also a teacher.

Poynor believes his years as a teacher will help him as a school board member, especially his experience of seeing what worked and what didn’t in three different school districts.

Poynor says he doesn’t have a specific agenda if he’s elected, but he does have some ideas for West Delaware.

Along with Poynor and Peyton’s race, Dan Hogan is running unopposed in West Delaware’s North District for Tom King’s seat. And no candidates have filed to run for the two-year term in the South District, which Steve Dudak is currently filling for Steve Buesing, who resigned earlier this year.

All West Delaware voters will be able to vote for all three open spots. Polls will be open from noon to 8 pm tomorrow. We’ll give you a rundown of the polling places, local candidates for all school districts and a reminder on a West Delaware ballot issue coming up in tomorrow’s KMCH Local News.
