Two Former Dyersville Mayors Facing Off in City Election

Two former Dyersville mayors will face each other in the November election.

Jim Heavens and Al Haas are the two candidates who have filed to run for Dyersville mayor.

Heavens had served as mayor from 2003 until 2013, when he was defeated by Haas. After serving two years, Haas lost his re-election bid to current mayor Dan Willenborg. Willenborg announced he would not seek re-election due to health concerns.

It is the only contested race in this year’s Dyersville city elections.

Two current city council members have chosen not to run for re-election. Teresa Bockenstedt and Mark Wagner will not try to keep their respective Ward One and At-Large seats. James Gibbs has filed in Ward One, with Tom Westhoff running for the At-Large spot.

Mike Oberbroeckling is the only incumbent seeking re-election, running unopposed for his Ward Three seat.
