Week 7 of the high school football season began on Friday night for KMCH coverage area schools and for some teams it did not conclude until Saturday night because of the lightning and heavy rains that disrupted play Friday night.
Games that did get completed Friday night:
Independence 54, Vinton-Shellsburg 14
Cascade 35 Beckman 7
Anamosa 15, Camanche 8 Maquoketa Valley 40 Jesup 14 In our Area Online and Playback Game of the week, late in the first half lightning delayed the North Linn/Ed-Co contest for two hours and forty-eight minutes but it was resumed at 9:52pm and the second half was completed in just 53 minutes. The Lynx hung on to win 13-8, over the Vikings.
Wapsie Valley beat Starmont 34-0 with the game called in the 3rd quarter.
Games that finished on Saturday:
The West Delaware Hawks stayed unbeaten in Class 3A district 4 with a 18-0 win over Dubuque Wahlert.
In exciting fashion, the East Buchanan Buccaneers edged Alburnett 7-6 in the closing seconds of the game in Winthrop.

North Linn hosted a large cross country meet featuring middle school, junior varsity and varsity teams on the school campus near Troy Mills Saturday morning.
The varsity boys race was won by Marion with 67 points, Starmont placed 8th with 194, Maquoketa Valley was 13th, Cascade 14th, the host Lynx 16th, Alburnett 19th and Independence 20th out of 21 schools. In the first 20 runners, Starmont senior Mitchell Hayes finished 13th with a 17:32 and North Linn junior Seth Boss was 17th with a 17:37.
The varsity girls division was taken by Benton Community with 103 points, Cascade was 6th with 164, 14th was North Linn, Starmont 15th and Independence 16th out of 17 teams. In the top 20, Cascade junior Madeline Rhomberg placed 3rd running 20:05 and North Linn sophomore Hannah Bridgewater was 18th with a 21:10.
