Several people were injured Sunday in two back-to-back crashes in Clayton County.

The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office says it happened northeast of Farmersburg on Highway 13/52 near Highway 18.

Authorities say a southbound SUV tried passing a southbound pickup truck. Two northbound motorcycles took evasive action to avoid hitting the SUV. One of the motorcycles hit the other motorcycle driven by Timothy Smith of Waverly, causing him to lose control and strike the SUV.

The driver of the first motorcycle, Dawn Hicks of Waverly, taken to Central Community Hospital to be treated for injuries.

The SUV driver, Kenneth Brown of Cedar Rapids, was not hurt. Neither was the pickup driver, Samuel Koch of Coggon, nor the driver of the second motorcycle, Timothy Smith of Waverly.

Brown was charged with unsafe passing.

The Sheriff’s Office says a second accident took place when an SUV slowed down due to the first accident. The SUV driven by Gary Hamor of Oelwein was rear-ended by another SUV.

Two passengers in Hamor’s vehicle were taken to Central Community Hospital with injuries. The other SUV driver, Jonathan Romo of Aplington, was not hurt. He was charged with failing to maintain control.
