Monticello Officer Injured in Accident While Responding to Call

A Monticello police officer was injured in an accident while responding to a call early Tuesday.

The Monticello Police Department says the officer was responding to a report of a domestic assault around 2 am when he swerved to avoid a deer while traveling through the 1000 block of South Main Street in Monticello. He lost control of his vehicle and went into the ditch, where the vehicle rolled multiple times.

The officer, whose name has not been released, was transported to Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa before being airlifted to St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

Police say the officer is in stable condition and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
