The West Delaware High School Activities Department, led by Activities Director Matt Weis, hosted the annual Hawks Volleyball season ending banquet inside the Sill Commons at WD High School last night. All four teams within the program had winning records as the varsity was 25-20, JV 9-3, Sophomore’s 17-8 and the Freshmen were 16-12. Jennie Voss was the sophomore coach while Shea Putz had the JV and Freshmen. Head varsity coach Brett Mather who concluded his 22nd season at WD thanked the seniors one last time and talks about the program’s mindset right now:
All four squads earned the “Distinguished in Academic Achievement” Award for reaching a GPA of 3.69. All-WaMaC Academic Honors went to the ten juniors and seniors on the varsity.

East Division All-WaMaC:
1st team= Lauren Collier and Claire Demmer
Honorable Mention= Kira Vaske and Allison Collier
Lauren Collier was a team captain, most valuable player and also achieved Academic All-State status with a 27 on her ACT and 3.75 GPA or higher.
Claire Demmer was a team captain and offensive specialist. She has 569 career kills putting at number five on the all-time list in the program.
Vaske was a team captain and defensive specialist. She had 330 digs that puts her in 14th all-time in a season with 3 per game good for 9th overall.
Macey Kleitsch was named a captain and was named Hardest Worker.
Ally Martin was given the 7th player award.
A new special annual memorial award was announced and presented by Sherilyn Cook and her children Kabryn and former WD volleyball player and 2012 grad Rayne. The Heart of Howie Award is named after 1983 WD graduate Howard Craig who was killed in a car accident in late April of 2009. Junior JoAnna Voss was the first recipient.
