The Manchester City Council spent some time Monday night talking about installing fiber optics through the community.
A northeast Iowa company called Hawkeye Telephone has approached the City about installing a fiber optic cable throughout Manchester, but the City’s new right-of-way ordinance was standing in their way. City Manager Tim Vick explains.
Vick says the City Council had their reservations about the project.
Ultimately, the Council agreed to work with Hawkeye Telephone since discussion on the project was already in the works before the new ordinance was implemented. They will honor the initial fees, but any projects in the future will follow the new fee structure.
Hawkeye Telephone’s general manager Alex Soderquist says this could be the beginning of a great fiber optic network opportunity for the Manchester community.
