It’s been a big year for tourism in Delaware County.
As you heard a few weeks ago on KMCH, several attractions have received statewide honors – the Iowa Tourism Conference named “Rhubarb on the River” in Manchester as this year’s Outstanding New Event and The Markket in Edgewood as this year’s Outstanding Retail Experience. And the Manchester Whitewater Park was voted as the winning cover photo for the 2018 Iowa Travel Guide.
And the community is hoping to build on that recent recognition. Delaware County Tourism Director Caryssa Philgreen hit the ground running when she took over the position earlier this year. She presented a year-end report to the Delaware County Supervisors and Manchester City Council this week.
Delaware County also has a new tourism banner that you may have seen displayed around the county.
Philgreen has been busy this fall, attending the Iowa Tourism Conference and the Iowa Group Travel Marketplace, where she’s learned new marketing strategies and visited with bus group planners. She says she’s working on ways to increase tourism next year.
And Delaware County Tourism is also working on the Historic Route 20 project, which Philgreen says is meant to draw in visitors along Old Highway 20 across the country (similar to Route 66). We’ll tell you more about that in the coming weeks here on KMCH!
