Second Trial Scheduled for Defendant in Dubuque County Homicide

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) – A second trial has been scheduled for one of the defendants in a Dubuque County homicide.

The Telegraph Herald reports that the new trial starting date for Eric Campbell Jr. is February 27th in Waterloo. The trial was moved to Black Hawk County District Court because of pretrial publicity in the Dubuque area.

A mistrial was declared earlier this month in Campbell’s first trial when a witness who didn’t know Campbell at the time of the crime and previously couldn’t identify him mentioned his name during her testimony.

Campbell is one of the men charged with killing 21-year-old Collin Brown in April 2016 during a robbery attempt at a trailer park in the Dubuque County community of Key West. Two other men already have been imprisoned.
