HS Wrestling: West Delaware Sweeps WaMaC Double Dual

With two dual wins last night the West Delaware wrestling team took sole possession of the lead in the WaMaC East with a double dual sweep against Western Dubuque and Mount Vernon in Epworth. The Hawks opened the night against Mount Vernon and jumped out to a 19-0 after the first four matches picking up bonus points in three of the wins. After the heavyweight match Mount Vernon cut the lead to 29-16 but the Hawks won three of the next four matches and went on to win the dual 44-19 winning nine matches and scored bonus points in seven of those wins. The second dual featured Western Dubuque and Mount Vernon in a dual that saw the Bobcats pick up seven pins three major decisions and one technical fall on their way to winning 11 matches as they defeated the Mustangs 59-15 setting up the final dual of the night between the two remaining undefeated teams in the WaMaC conference. West Delaware jumped out to a 13-0 lead after starting the dual with four straight wins, but Western Dubuque battled back and cut the lead to 13-12 picking up a fall at 182 and a forfeit at 195. After shifting the lineup in the upper two weights the Hawks would win seven of the final eight matches earning three pins, a technical fall, and a major decision as they went on to win the dual 46-15 raising their season record to 10-3 and 5-0 in the WaMaC while Western Dubuque’s moves to 11-4 and 3-1 in the WaMaC. West Delaware head coach Jeff Voss was very happy with the way his team came out of the holiday break against two good opponents:
