Rural Independence Fire Started by Overheated Heat Lamp

An Independence firefighter who was injured earlier this week has returned to work.

The firefighter was injured while fighting a house fire northwest of Independence on Otterville Boulevard early Wednesday morning.

According to our coverage partner, KCRG, investigators believe the fire was started when a heat lamp being used to warm a chicken coop overheated.

The home was destroyed, but the homeowners plan to rebuild.
