HS Wrestling: Saturday 1-10 Recap

It was another full slate of tournaments for our area wrestling teams on Saturday.

In Cedar Rapids: The West Delaware wrestling team finished in fourth place of a class 3A dominated tournament despite not having a wrestler competing in the finals. The Hawks had 11 of their 13 wrestlers place in the top eight of the tournament with a trio of juniors leading the way as Ryan Phillips at 132 pounds Mitchel Mangold at 152 and Jordan Bries at 182 pounds finished in third place and all of them scored bonus points in their third place matches. West Delaware finished 20 points behind Moline for third place as top ranked in class 3A Fort Dodge won the team title with an impressive 268.5 points which was 52.5 points better than 10th ranked Dubuque Hempstead. At Osage: Independence went 3-2 at the Osage Duals on Saturday, the same tournament they went winless in a season ago. The Mustangs picked up wins over Dike-New Hartford, Humboldt, and Osage, with their two losses coming to Clear Lake and Kasson-Mantorville out of Minnesota. For complete results click HERE.

In Cascade: Western Dubuque won the Cascade tournament as they were 36 points better than Beckman for the team title. The Bobcats were led by juniors Ryker Kurimski who won the 152 pound title and Devin Ludwig who claimed the 182 pound crown. Beckman junior Grant Hoeger won the 132 pound weight class and senior Jake Recker won the 145 bracket helping the Blazers to a second place team finish. Cascade finished in sixth place and were led by Nolan Noonan at 126 and heavyweight Quentin Recker both won titles for the Cougars, and Maquoketa Valley finished the tournament in 11th place.
