HS SPORTS: Tuesday Night Coverage Area Basketball and Wrestling

By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:

A crowded slate of high school girls and boys basketball along with wrestling meets will be taking place in the KMCH Sports coverage area tonight.

We’ll have a split girls basketball doubleheader live on KMCH and KMCH.com. The night begins with area girls coverage as Class 2A 14th-ranked Maquoketa Valley welcomes in Class 1A top-ranked Springville to Delhi with a 6pm start time with Sports Director Jon Swisher and Dan Cassutt. Then the West Delaware girls will host Beckman inside Seedorff Gymnasium around 7:45 with Bill Logan.

MV is 14-2 overall and 12-2 in the Tri-Rivers Conference, third place behind North Linn and Springville. The Orioles, who are 2-time defending 1A state champs are 13-2 and 12-1 sitting in second place behind the Lynx. The Wildcats, who are riding an 8-game win streak fell in the first meeting this season in Springville back on November 28th, 57-49. MV 12th-year head coach Scot Moenck knows this group of Orioles very well from conference play the last several years:

The two teams split their contests last season, including the Wildcats winning a 48-38 ballgame in Delhi on January, 23rd. Jon and Dan will take the air around 5:55pm this evening from MVHS.

The West Delaware Hawks are 2-10 and last place at 0-7 in East side play of the WaMaC conference while Beckman is having one of their best starts in recent program history as they sit at 8-6 and 4-3 in the East, good for fourth place. Third-year Hawks head coach Rod Conrad says he has been proud of his team for their consistent hard work on the floor and he believes if it continues they are so close to getting an East division W:

The Blazers won the first meeting of the season back on December 5th in Dyersville 53-46. Bill will hit the air around 7:40pm tonight from West Delaware High School.
