In girls basketball last night, the Maquoketa Valley Wildcats fell to Springville 58-40 in a game that the Orioles controlled for most of the way. Springville led by 9 at the end of the first quarter and halftime then led by 14 heading into the 4th. Oriole senior and Minnesota State recruit Mikayla Nachazel led their offense with 22 points including 13 in the second half. A slow start offensively and not being able to take advantage of 10 Oriole first half turnovers plagued Maquoketa Valley as Springville’s offense continued to stay warm. The Wildcats were led by Sam Wall with 16 points, Payton Ries scored 13 and Macy Hoeger, Maci Frieburger and Lydia Helle added 2. MV fell to 14-3 and 12-3 in the Tri-Rivers Conference sitting in 3rd place. The Orioles improved to 14-2 and 13-1 sitting in 2nd place of the TRC.
Beckman beat West Delaware for the ninth time in a row, 45-39, as the Hawks drop to 0-8 on the East side of the WaMaC Conference.
