HS SPORTS: Thursday Results/Friday Preview

The West Delaware Girls and Boys Bowling teams hosted first-year program Monticello at Lightning Lanes yesterday afternoon with the Hawks taking both varsity matches.

The Hawk girls rolled a 2624 as Lorna Niedert was the top bowler with a 425, Andrea Salow a 371, Hannah Axline 348, 300 for Lacey Cole, Kaliah Griffin a 264 and 248 for Kyleigh Marsden. Monticello had a 2198, Natalie Newhard was the top roller with a 297. The 6th-ranked lady Hawks improved their mark to 4-1 and will face Maquoketa this afternoon, the Cardinals are the No. 5 team in 1A with a 3-5 record.

On the boys side, the Hawks won handily by the score of 2997-2813. John Juergens led the way with a 481, Jim Shover had a 411, 402 for Ian Tibbott, Eli Heims had a 401, Alex Schnieders a 397 and 355 for Jeff Boeckenstedt. The Panthers top man was Keegan Arduser with a 427.  The 4th-rated Hawks are also 4-1 now and face top-ranked Maquoketa later today, the Cards are 8-1. The action inside Timber Lanes in Maquoketa starts at 2:30pm this afternoon.

Our featured game from KMCH Sports will come from Seedorff Gymnasium where the 9-4 West Delaware Hawk boys will entertain the 3-9 Sabers of Central DeWitt. The Hawks are in 2nd place with a 6-2 record on the East side of the WaMaC Conference while the Sabers are 1-7 in last place. Central DeWitt won the first meeting this season down in DeWitt back on December 8th 47-46. Central has lost 7 of 8 games since that point while the Hawks have won 7 of their last 8. Very little movement took place besides 2 area coverage teams dropping out of their respective classes top 15 with Maquoketa Valley and Western Dubuque.
