HS BASKETBALL: Thursday Results, Friday’s Schedule and Girls Regional 1A, 2A, 3A Pairings:

Two area schools took part in non-conference basketball games last night. In Delhi, Maquoketa Valley hosted Monticello. The 9th-ranked Panthers avoided an upset but had to comeback to do it as they trailed by 8 at the halftime break but outscored the Wildcats 44-27 in the second half for the 70-61 win. Senior Taylor McDonald led the Panthers with 22 points while MV junior Sam Wall had a career high 34 points. The boys game was even closer as Monti held off Maq. Valley 52-49.

Tonight our featured game from KMCH Sports will take place in Mount Vernon as the 11-5 West Delaware Hawk Boys travel to take on the 6-8 Mustangs. Both squads are coming off of tough losses on Tuesday night. The Hawks an overtime contest with Maquoketa at home, falling 52-51. Mt. Vernon fell by 4 to Beckman in Dyersville. The Hawks won the first meeting in OT 54-45 back on Dec. 15th in Manchester. All the coverage live on KMCH and KMCH.com starting around 7:30pm with Sports Director Jon Swisher and Bill Logan.

The IGHSAU released the Regional postseason pairings for high school girls basketball yesterday afternoon. First round play begins on Thursday Feb. 8th for Class 1A, 2A and 3A start on Saturday the 10th, all with 7pm start times:

Class 1A-

Region 2: Ed-Co will host Central Elkader in Edgewood, the winner travels to Lansing Kee.

Class 2A-

Region 3: Top-ranked and unbeaten North Linn has a first round bye, they will host the Hudson and Wapsie Valley winner on the 13th.

Region 4:

No. 6 Cascade also received a bye, they will entertain the winner of East Buchanan and Lisbon.

Maquoketa Valley earned a bye as well and will welcome in either Sumner-Fredericksburg or Starmont.

Class 3A-

Region 3:  Monticello will host Solon with the winner facing Vinton-Shellsburg or Benton Community.

Region 4: West Delaware will take a road trip to Mount Vernon with the winner taking on Anamosa or Beckman as those two conference foes meet in Anamosa first round.

Class 4A & 5A regional basketball pairings will be posted next Thursday, February 1st.
