HS Wrestling: Sectional Saturday Recap

The postseason got underway for area class 1A and 2A wrestling teams on Saturday as individuals competed in sectional tournaments in hopes of advancing to next Saturday’s district meets, as well as trying to qualify their teams to Tuesday’s regional duals.

In Decorah: The team title came down to the wire at Luther College as West Delaware won their final four matches in the tournament to come from behind and win the tournament by just four and a half points while advancing 11 wrestlers to the district meet, and they include Luke Farmer, Evan Woods, Reilly Dolan, Alex Maury, Cole Engel, Cael Meyer, Mitchel Mangold, Jack Neuhaus, Jordan Bries, Harrison Goebel, and Carson Petlon. The Hawks defeated second place Crestwood 250 to 245.5 and will host Union La Porte City in a regional dual Tuesday in Manchester. For complete results click HERE.

In Van Horne: Independence was 16 points better than Union La Porte City for the team title at the Benton Community sectional as the Mustangs sent six wrestlers to the district meet as they are Matthew Doyle, Jarret Orr, Cole Davis, Tayten Freidhof, Hunter Crawford, and Drew Evans. The Mustangs will head to West Liberty tomorrow for regional duals as they will face eighth ranked Solon. For complete results click HERE.

In Anamosa: Beckman qualified for regional duals on Tuesday as they won the Anamosa sectional, defeating second place Dubuque Wahlert by four points 205 to 201. The Blazers had eight wrestlers advance in Mason Recker, Nick Hageman, Grant Hoeger, Jake Recker, Luke Hageman, Evan Wulfekuhle, Owen Grover, and Austin Koopman as they will wrestle ninth ranked Washington in the regional dual semifinal Tuesday at Davenport Assumption. In Dike: East Buchanan finished in second place at the Dike-New Hartford sectional and qualified for Tuesday’s regional dual while qualifying five wrestlers to districts. TJ Lau, Max McGraw, Braydon Nunemaker, James Mossman, and Heath Weber advanced for the Bucs who will head to Denver and face the third ranked Cyclones of Denver in the regional dual semifinal. Ed-Co finished in fifth place as Killian Welsh was the lone district qualifier for the Vikings. For complete results click HERE.

In Cascade: Maquoketa Valley won the Cascade sectional and qualified seven wrestlers as are Parker Sternhagen, Chance Downs, Robert Hildebrand, Mitch Smith, Carson Wright, and Cole Kruse advanced to districts for the Wildcats who will wrestle Wapsie Valley in a regional dual semifinal in Denver tomorrow night. Cascade also qualified for regional duals as they will take on Sigourney-Keota in Gilbertville tomorrow night, as Aidan Noonan, Nolan Noolan, Connor Conlin, John Gadient, Zach Ries, and Quentin Recker all qualified for the district meet. North Linn finished in fourth place and qualified five wrestlers to districts as they include Heath Moyer, Curtis Schott, Brady Henderson, Trevor Cherry, and Quinton Rechkemmer advanced for the Lynx. In Sumner: Mitchell Hayes and Tyler Mueller-Lynde of Starmont both qualified to the district meet for Starmont as the Stars finished in seventh place at the Sumner-Fredericksburg sectional. For complete results click HERE.
