HS BASKETBALL: Tuesday Night 2-7 Recap

By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:

The 5-15 West Delaware Hawks fell to Anamosa at the Upper Gym last night 44-27. The Lady Raiders improved to 17-4 overall, their best mark since 2005 which is also the last time they won a conference title. With their 12-2 East side record they win it outright. It’s their first ever WaMaC crown and 3rd all-time conference championship. The Hawks took the lead early after a 5-0 run but Anamosa grabbed their first lead early in the 2nd quarter and never trailed again, outscoring the Hawks 15-2 in the 2nd period. Anamosa was led by senior Sydney Volkenant with 19 points and 10 for Sophia Wilt. The Hawks got 9 from Kendra Offerman and 8 from Abby McGrane. WD honored their 6 seniors before the game. One more regular season game remains this afternoon for the Hawks as they face top-ranked and WaMaC West champ Marion in a make-up game with a 4:30pm tip time inside Seedorff Gym.
