Former Independence Instructor and Coach Passes Away

The Independence Junior/Senior High School Industrial Technology department is mourning the loss of one of their own.

Tadd Nichols passed away Sunday night at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home after a long fight with PLS and ALS.

Tadd taught Industrial Technology at the Independence High School from 1970 to 1997.  He taught night adult welding classes and was assistant wrestling coach for 21 years.

In a post on their Facebook page, the Independence Community School District says Nichols was a multi-talented instructor who was instrumental in building their strong programming.

They says he continued to mentor current Industrial Technology teachers, even after his illness prevented him from teaching.

Funeral services are Saturday.
