Over a dozen local non-profits have been awarded McGee Barr grants from the Greater Delaware County Community Foundation.
Second Helpings was awarded five thousand dollars, the Delaware County Food Bank and Helping Services for Youth and Families received over four thousand dollars and the West Delaware Back to School Fair was given three thousand dollars.
Other organizations receiving funds included Operation Santa Claus, the Riverview Center, Lutheran Services of Iowa, Junior Achievement of Eastern Iowa, Backbone Area YFC, the Franklin Street Underground, The Clothing Closet, First Presbyterian Church and Manchester Head Start.
The Greater Delaware County Community Foundation is handing out nearly 63-thousand dollars in grants and programs to help the poor and needy of Delaware County, including more than 15-thousand dollars in scholarships for residents wishing to use education as a tool to upgrade their employment skills.
In addition, over 17-hundred dollars was given to an organization that helps the county’s elderly in honor of Harlo Coon. This year’s recipient was the Northeast Iowa Food Bank.
