The 2018 state wrestling tournament gets underway today with state dual portion which will feature West Delaware as they will take on Davenport Assumption at 11:00. The Hawks are very familiar with the Knights as they are the team that defeated the Hawks in the 2012 and 2013 state dual finals by a total of three points. In 2012 Assumption won the final five matches of the dual to take a 32-30 win, and in 2013 the Hawks fell by a point and last season the Knights ended the Hawks season in the regional duals. This season West Delaware enters the state duals as the number four seed and will have the support of their entire team as West Delaware head coach Jeff Voss explains they will reward all the kids for their efforts all season by having them there to be a part of the experience:
With a win in the first dual the Hawks would take on the winner in the New Hampton/Turkey Valley vs Webster City dual at 1:00 and their final dual will be at either 4:30 or 6:30. Voss says that no matter how the day goes it is a great experience for the wrestlers in a such a big venue:
